| This Saturday, Florida is planning to allow the slaughter of up to 200 black bears. Chris started a Care2 petition asking the governor to intervene and stop the black bear hunt. Please sign this urgent petition to prevent the unnecessary deaths of innocent bears. Bear hunting has not been legal in Florida in 21 years – in part because bear populations were so low that conservation officials had to step in to protect black bears and bring back their numbers. Wildlife officials have even admitted they can't agree on a reason to start hunting bears again – but they went ahead and approved the hunt anyway. Unless the governor intervenes to stop it, bears will be killed as soon as this Saturday. During the week-long hunt, it's estimated that about 200 bears would be killed. Florida hunters would be able to get a license for just $100.
