US pig snout even in Baltic states: Nearly 600 U.S. soldiers with tanks to arrive in Poland, Baltics 26 Sept 2014 Nearly 600 U.S. soldiers accompanied by tanks and other vehicles will arrive in Poland and the Baltic states at the weekend for military exercises, the Polish defence ministry said on Friday. The U.S. soldiers will replace a more lightly armed force of paratroopers and will take part in rotational exercises meant to show the United States' commitment to NATO's eastern allies, it said in a statement. "The Americans are training for the deployment of forces and for cooperation with allies," Artur Golawski, a spokesman for Poland's armed forces, told Reuters.
US-led coalition hits Islamic State group in 4 provinces across northern and eastern Syria 29 Sept 2014 Activists say the U.S.-led coalition has carried out several airstrikes targeting Islamic State group positions in northern and eastern Syria. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the air raids overnight took place in four provinces: Aleppo, Raqqa, Hassakeh and Deir el-Zour. The entrance to Syria's largest gas plant, Conoco in Deir el-Zour, was among the targets. The Observatory says there were casualties in the airstrikes, but that it has no concrete figures.
Retaliation for US-led airstrikes in Syria will follow, Al-Qaeda offshoot vows 28 Sept 2014 The US-led air campaign against terrorists in Syria amounts to a war against Islam, Al-Qaeda[al-CIAduh]-linked Nusra Front group has claimed, promising retaliation against those states involved in the bombing of the 'caliphate' instead of targeting Assad forces. "We are in a long war. This war will not end in months nor years," group spokesman Abu Firas al-Suri said as cited by Reuters. Dozens of Al-Nusra Front fighters were reportedly killed after the anti-ISIS coalition launched the first round of its airstrikes on Tuesday, and the audio message released on Saturday is the group's first reaction to attacks.
13,000 US troops to be deployed to Iraq: Officials 25 Sept 2014 Iraqi officials say that the United States is due to send 13,000 soldiers to Iraq, despite its claims of complete military withdrawal from the country. The vice president of the local council of Iraq's Saladin Province made the announcement on Thursday, adding that the troops, along with their vehicles, would be stationed at the Speicher airfield in the city of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the capital, Baghdad. Washington has already sent 1,600 troops to Iraq, most recently on September 10, when an additional 475 soldiers were deployed to the country.
Australian forces prepare for military action in Iraq 29 Sept 2014 Australia's mission in Iraq is ramping up with cabinet expected to sign off on deploying troops and give the go-ahead for air strikes within days. Parliament gave approval by 524 votes to 43 (a massive majority of 481) for Britain to join the US-led coalition in the Middle East after the Prime Minister said IS forces are "psychopathic terrorists trying to kill us". Labour MP Rushanara Ali immediately resigned from the party's front bench after the result was announced.

With the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats united on the need to take military action in Iraq, MPs voted by 524 to 43 in favour, a majority of 481. The debate prompted Bethanl Green and Bow MP Rushanara Ali to resign from Labour's frontbench because she was unwilling to vote for the government's motion.

Ontario police urged to be vigilant following threats by Islamic State extremist group 27 Sept 2014 At least one Canadian law enforcement agency is urging its officers to be extra vigilant in the wake of the release of a speech from the Islamic State extremist group earlier this week urging attacks on Canada and other western countries, including their police forces. A security bulletin titled "Officer Safety: Jihadists Threats to Police" obtained by Postmedia News was sent to members of the Ontario Provincial Police on Wednesday. OPP spokesman Sgt. Peter Leon confirmed Friday that the bulletin was issued this week for reasons of officer safety.
California protesters block Israeli-owned ship 28 Sept 2014 Officials say a group of pro-Palestinian protesters are again blocking an Israeli-owned ship from unloading its cargo at a port in California. International Longshore and Warehouse Union spokesman Craig Merrilees says dockworkers at the Port of Oakland did not unload cargo from the ZIM Shanghai on Saturday because of safety concerns raised by the presence of police and protesters. He said the protesters blocked workers from driving into the terminal during their morning and evening shifts.
California governor vetoes drone warrant bill 29 Sept 2014 The measure, which passed the state's Senate and Assembly with broad support, would have required law enforcement agencies to obtain a warrant before using an unmanned aircraft, or drone, except in emergencies such as a fire or a hostage-taking. California Governor Jerry Brown [another useless DemocRAT] vetoed a bill that would have placed strict regulations on how law enforcement and other government agencies can use drones, his office said on Sunday.
Japan's Fukushima Prefecture Stricken by 5.0-M Earthquake 25 Sept 20145 Japan's Fukushima Prefecture has been jolted by a pair of moderate earthquakes on Wednesday. The first temblor with a magnitude of 5.0 struck at 9:45 pm JST (8:45 am EDT in the U.S.), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The second struck 46 minutes later at a slightly stronger 5.2 magnitude. JMA said the epicentres of the two earthquakes registered just off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, where the Fukushima Daiichi and Fukushimi Daini reactors were located.
Volcano Erupts in Japan - 7 Rescued, 32 Missing 28 Sept 2014 Military helicopters plucked seven people from a Japanese mountainside Sunday after a spectacular volcanic eruption sent officials scrambling to reach many more injured and stranded on the mountain. Mount Ontake in central Japan erupted shortly before noon Saturday, spewing large white plumes of gas and ash high into the sky and blanketing the surrounding area in ash. At least 34 climbers have been injured, including 12 seriously, according to Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency.
American Doctor Exposed to Ebola in Sierra Leone Admitted to NIH --Patient to be treated in a 'high-level isolation' unit 27 Sept 2014 An American doctor exposed to Ebola in Sierra Leone will be admitted to a National Institutes of Health hospital in Maryland for care, the agency said Saturday. The unnamed physician will be observed and enrolled in a clinical study in the coming days. His admission to the Bethesda center is a precaution, and doesn't mean the physician was infected with the deadly virus while volunteering in West Africa, officials added.

The report from two free-speech organisations, the New York-based National Coalition Against Censorship and the Copenhagen-based Freemuse, to the United Nation's (UN) Universal Periodic Review states that the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) lists 11,851 titles banned from its facilities...Prisoners in Texas are entitled to be mailed books and magazines, but the titles are checked on arrival against a "master list" of acceptable works. If they do not appear on the list, then it is the decision of the post-room officer as to whether they are objectionable.
Police Behavior in Ferguson Draws Attention of Justice Department 26 Sept 2014 Ferguson Police Department to stop its officers from wearing bracelets stamped with the message "I am Darren Wilson," in solidarity with the police officer who is being investigated for shooting an unarmed black 18-year-old, and from covering up their name plates with tape. The bracelets, dark blue with white lettering, were photographed on the wrists of several Ferguson police officers who were interacting with demonstrators this week as protests flared up once again in this small city in the suburbs of St. Louis...In a stern letter to Chief Thomas Jackson, Christy E. Lopez, deputy chief of the special litigation section of the Justice Department's civil rights division, said that the bracelets "upset and agitated people."
Ferguson, Missouri, Police Officer Shot Saturday Evening 27 Sept 2014 A Ferguson police officer was shot Saturday night, a senior local police source with official knowledge of the situation tells NBC News. The officer was shot close to the area impacted by protests last month in Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown by Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson, according to the source. Tim Zoll with the Ferguson Police Department told NBC affiliate NewsChannel 5 in St. Louis that the officer was shot in the arm.

Sen. Durbin calls for inquiry into fire at Aurora air-traffic center 28 Sept 2014 As federal officials declared it will be at least two more weeks until the Chicago Center air-traffic facility in Aurora is back at full capacity, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D) said Sunday he wants the Federal Aviation Administration's inspector general to scrutinize the circumstances surrounding the sabotage that grounded and delayed hundreds of flights since Friday. Authorities say a contract employee, 36-year-old Naperville resident Brian Howard, set a fire in the basement of the facility as part of a suicide attempt.
Chicago-area air traffic center fire grounds nearly 1,500 flights, disrupts travel 26 Sept 2014 A fire set by an employee at a Chicago-area air traffic control center led to the cancellation of nearly 1,500 flights at the city's two major airports, snarling air traffic across the nation and globally. Flights resumed after a delay of about four hours, but there were bottlenecks across the air system. The blaze at the facility in Aurora, outside of Chicago, apparently was set by a man who suffered self-inflicted wounds, Aurora police said.

On Sept. 23, a postal worker left a note on Matthew Fane's Vancouver-area mailbox stating that they were unable to deliver a package to his door due to a "bear at door." According to Canada.com, the bear was likely a grizzly or black bear, which are frequently spotted around Fane's home in British Columbia.
