For years Chinese dairy producers have been making trips to the local
tannery, collecting the chemical scraps left over from the leather
softening process, putting it into milk, and thereby boosting the milk's
protein content as measured in tests.
But the chemicals they are adding---hydrolyzed leather proteins, sodium
and potassium dichromate, the chemical hexavalent chromium
(CrVI)---cause cancer.
The toxic milk has been dubbed "leather milk." The most vulnerable
victims are infants.
The issue had been reported as early as 2005, but recent reports in the
Chinese media, along with high-profile denials by the Communist Party
that there were any problems, brought it to light again.
Zhejiang Metropolitan Daily reported that five out of eight batches of
dairy drinks from Chenyuan Dairy Co., Ltd. in Jinhua City, Zhejiang
Province, contained high levels of hydrolyzed protein from leather.
Additionally, six batches of products sold to Longyou, Haining, and
Jiashan markets all contained hydrolyzed leather proteins.
Hong Kong's Wenweipo reported as early as 2005 that at least 200 diary
factories in Shandong Province added leather hydrolyzed protein to their
products.

in July 2005 that in Shanxi Province, artificial milk was made out of
materials that have nothing to do with real milk, such as synthetic
flavoring, protein hydrolysate, and additives. Such artificial milk was
then sold under famous brand names.
In March 2009 a site inspection of Chenyuan Diary Co., Ltd. revealed
three 20 kg bags of leather hydrolyzed protein, along with 1,300 boxes
of tainted dairy products. Similar cases were also reported in Shandong,
Shanxi, Hebei provinces.
China State Council Food Safety Administration issued a notice on Feb.
13 that since July 2010 they have uncovered 40 illegal dairy product
manufacturing and sales facilities. A total of 2,131 tons of tainted
milk powder were confiscated.

Wang Xiaofeng, a Beijing food inspection expert, said it is more
difficult to detect leather hydrolyzed protein than melamine, because it
is a type of protein itself. The inspection method devised by the
Ministry of Agriculture checks if hydroxyproline, a type of hydrolyzed
animal collagen, is contained in the dairy products. If so, it can be
inferred that the product contains leather hydrolyzed protein.
Social System Broken
Dishonest traders often add water to milk. The milk is thereby diluted
and cannot pass nutrition analysis tests because of reduced protein
content. Substances are then added to ensure an acceptable protein level.
Xinmin Weekly once quoted a dairy industry insider saying that a ton of
protein hydrolysate costs 1,000 yuan. The cost of producing one ton of
milk powder---including fresh milk, labor, water, and electricity---is
at least 20,000 yuan. However, if protein hydrolysate was added the cost
can drop down to 4,000 or 5,000 yuan.
Milk is mostly consumed by children and is the only source of nutrition
for infants. The devastating consequences of a previous scandal, in
2008, involving the chemical melamine, caused at least six painful
deaths due to kidney stones, and left millions of young children sick,
with potential future health problems.
At that time Communist Party authorities covered up the poisonings until
the Olympic Games were over.
Professor Guo Yuhua from Tsinghua University Department of Sociology
says it's a problem of China's social system, where everyone is looking
out for their own interest.

Firefighters who recovered bodies at Ground Zero are developing
cancer at a faster rate than those who worked before the atrocity,
medical officials have revealed.
A seven-year study by the New York Fire Department has claimed that
there are 'unusual rises' in the number of cancer cases among
firefighters who worked in the aftermath of 9/11.
*Some types of cancer among 9/11 firefighters are even 'bizarrely
off the charts',* according to sources who have seen the
as-yet-undisclosed federal-funded study.
Dr. David Prezant, the Fire Department's chief medical officer, has
reportedly said that cancer cases across 'all ranks' of the FDNY who
worked at Ground Zero are 'up significantly'.
It is thought that the report – due to be officially disclosed in
time for the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks in September –
cites unusual rises in leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple
myeloma.
The report also states increases in esophageal, prostate and thyroid
cancers.
'It's a fact that New York City firefighters are dying of cancer in
record numbers.
'We have buried 10 firefighters in just the last 15 weeks, seven
with cancer. On Sept. 10, 2001, they were young, healthy firefighters.'
In 2007, doctors at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, which monitors World
Trade Center rescue workers, noted blood cancers like multiple
myeloma, which normally strikes in the 60s or 70s, were being found
in relatively young officers.
The New York state Health Department has confirmed that 345 Ground
Zero workers have died of various cancers as of June 2010.

EPA to Help Mainstream Media Obscure The Truth About Radiation Exposure to
Americans

As Americans focus on March Madness and Dancing With the Stars instead of
the radioactive plume spreading all across the country, *the US EPA
(Environmental Protection Agency) is attempting to make the mainstream
media
cover up of the Fukushima cloud a bit easier.

*The agency now notorious for its infamous claim that the air was safe to
breathe after 9/11 is now seeking to raise the PAGs (Protective Action
Guides) to levels vastly higher than those at which they are currently set
allowing for more radioactive contamination of the environment and the
general public in the event of a radioactive disaster.
*
PAGs are policies established by the EPA that guide the agency in enforcing
the various environmental laws such as the Clean Air and Water Act in the
invent of a radioactive emergency such as a nuclear/dirty bomb or factory
meltdown like that occurring in Japan.
The EPA had already established PAGs in this area in 1992. They can be
found
here. However, the agency now plans to amend and revise these standards
this
year.
Because regulatory agencies form their own policies (although they can be
directed by either the President or the Congress), there is no requirement
to seek Congressional approval for these changes. All that is required is
that the agency place the proposed changes in the Federal Register for
public comment before it finalizes its draft into legal policy.
According to PEER (Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, the
new standards would drastically raise the levels of radiation allowed in
food, water, air, and the general environment. PEER, a national
organization
of local, state, and federal employees who had access to internal EPA
emails, claims that the new standards will result in a "nearly 1000-fold
increase for exposure to strontium-90, a 3000 to 100,000-fold hike for
exposure to iodine-131; and an almost 25,000 rise for exposure to
radioactive nickel-63" in drinking water. This information, as well as the
emails themselves were published by Collapsenet on March 24.
In addition to raising the level of permissible radiation in the
environment, PEER suggests that the standards of cleanup after a
radioactive
emergency will actually be reduced. *As a result, radioactive cleanup
thresholds will be vastly lowered and, by default, permissible levels of
radiation will be vastly increased in this manner as well.

As Michael Kane writes for Collapsenet, the current EPA numbers, as well as
those generally agreed upon in the international radiation assessment
community, all point to the fact that these increases in permissible levels
would *create a level of radiation where approximately 1 in 4 people would
contract cancer from exposure to them.
*The changes to the 1992 PAGs are not a new attempt by the EPA. The agency
attempted similar changes in 2009 but the revisions were stopped largely by
a barrage of FOIA requests and a lawsuit filed by PEER. However, in 2009
there was no massive radiation disaster the EPA needed to cover up as there
is at the current time. In 2009, the EPA could afford to back off, regroup,
and try again at a later date. Unfortunately, it is not likely to react the
same way this time around.
As of the time of this writing, a toxic cloud of radiation has not only
*reached the US West Coast, but has spread all the way across the
country to
states like South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and Massachussetts.
Both the US government and the mainstream media have largely denied any
risk
associated with the radiation and have actively engaged in covering up the
extent to which it has spread across the country*.
In the event of any real journalism, the revelation of the danger and scale
of the Japanese radiation cloud could be disastrous for those who hide the
truth from the people who are sure to suffer the consequences. Indeed, the
revelation that a toxic cloud of cancer-causing particles is littering the
United States (especially in real time) might even be too much for the
average television- and sports-obsessed American to handle.
*However, the lowering of safety standards for radiation contamination
would
be a major victory for those wishing to cover it up*. After all, the
talking
heads would then be able to claim that the radiation levels are within the
safety range set by the EPA.
No cause for worry.
Regardless of the motivation behind these new changes, they must be
actively
opposed. We cannot allow the veil to be pulled even further over the
eyes of
the American people. At the very least, we cannot allow an agency charged
with protecting both the environment and the people who live in it to set
standards alleviating itself of that responsibility.

highly contagious AIDS-like disease is spreading in China, However, HIV
tests come up negative.
In a _small hotel_ across from the Beijing Center for Disease Control
and Prevention, a
reporter from New Express Daily, dressed in an isolation suit,
interviewed a dozen "unusual" patients from different areas of China.
Their symptoms are painful and debilitating, and AIDS-like, but repeated
tests for HIV have come up negative.
Lin Jun, one of the patients interviewed in the March 24 New Express
Daily report <http://epaper.xkb.com.cn/view.php?id=661697>, said he used
to be chubby, but now he is skin and bones, and his joints have become
all deformed.
Lin is referred to in the group as "big brother" for his kindness and
giving fellow patients hope when they feel hopeless, with some having
considered suicide.
In 2008 Lin's mother received a blood transfusion at a hospital.
Afterwards, she experienced frequent _night sweats_, numb limbs, aches
all over, creaking joints, rashes on her hands, and _weight loss_.
In May of that year, Lin accidentally became infected through contact
with his mother's blood. Fourteen days later, he fell ill with swollen
lymph nodes on his neck, sore knees that made clicking sounds, and pain
all over his body. He also started vomiting after every meal, and the
left side of his face swelled up. In half a year, his weight dropped
from 82 kilograms (181 lbs) to 52 kilograms (115 lbs).
Three months later, his wife and child developed the same symptoms.
Lin said he went to every major hospital in Shanghai, but could not get
a definite diagnosis. He has taken the HIV test eight times, and each
time the test turned out negative.
Then he found an Internet _blog_ called "The Negative Group," which he
learned stands for "HIV negative." He realized that writing on this blog
were all people like himself, with the same kinds of symptoms, desperate
to find a cure.
Several Chinese media have recently reported that the Department of
Health of Guangdong Province has confirmed that people in Beijing,
Shanghai, and Guangdong have fallen ill after being infected with an
unknown virus. The patients think they have AIDS, but they test negative
for HIV.
Guangdong has organized clinical experts, epidemiologists and
psychologists to work together on these cases. The Health _Ministry_ has
also selected six provinces with more patients, including Beijing,
Shanghai, Zhejiang, Hunan, Jiangsu and Guangdong, to conduct
epidemiological studies, but there are no results yet, the reports said.
In most of the 30 cases investigated by New Express Daily for its March
24 report, people said their relatives and friends are also infected.
Most of the 30 patients were infected through sexual contact. Some
experts diagnosed them as having AIDS phobia.
However, the disease seems to be highly contagious and can spread by
contact via any bodily fluid—through kissing, shared utensils, sweat,
and even protected sex. Once infected, the immune system appears to be
attacked, which results in a decrease of white blood cells and the
body's ability to defend against infectious disease and foreign materials.
In the past, official health agencies have only conducted HIV tests on
these patients and have not checked for other, similarly pathological
viruses. With HIV results coming up negative, many patients then stopped
taking protective measures with their relatives. Subsequently, all their
relatives and friends were infected, many have said.
One infected man told The Epoch Times that the disease is highly
infectious and hard to prevent. His wife and two-year-old child both
appear to have it. The child has lip and skin blood spots, he said.
A retired officer in his 40's told The Epoch Times for a previous June
16, 2010 report that he had been infected with a disease with similar
symptoms in 2009, at a get-together at a friend's house. "I thought it
was just a cold at the time, so I still participated in all kind of
gatherings. Consequently, over 100 of my comrades in the army, relatives
and friends were infected by me," he said.

The mass radioactive contamination of our planet is now under way thanks
to the astonishing actions taking place at the Fukushima nuclear
facility in Japan. As of last night, TEPCO announced it is releasing
10,000 tons of radioactive water directly into the Pacific Ocean. That
2.4 million gallons of planetary poison being dumped directly into the
ocean.
This water is being released because they have run out of places to keep
it on land. It's too deadly to transport anywhere else, and all the
storage pools around Fukushima are already overflowing. So they're
dumping it into the ocean, then calling it "safe" because they claim the
ocean will "disperse" all the radiation and make it harmless.
But because there's more radioactive water being produced every day at
Fukushima, this process of releasing radioactive water into the ocean
could theoretically continue for years, easily making Fukushima the
worst nuclear disaster in the history of our world.
Quick, fudge the numbers before anybody notices!
Fukushima, you see, is doing to the Pacific Ocean what BP and the
Deepwater Horizon did to the Gulf of Mexico last summer. Except that in
the case of Fukushima, that radiation doesn't just disappear with the
help of millions of gallons of toxic chemicals. Nope, that radiation
sticks around for decades.
So what to do? If you're the United States Environment Protection
Agency, there's only one option: Declare radiation to be safe!
Yes indeed, friends, we have reached a moment of comedic insanity at the
EPA, where those in charge of protecting the environment are hastily
rewriting the definition of "radioactive contamination" in order to make
sure that whatever fallout reaches the United States falls under the new
limits of "safe" radiation.
The EPA maintains a set of so-called "Protective Action Guides" (PAGs).
These PAGs are being quickly revised to radically increase the allowable
levels of iodine-131 (a radioactive isotope) to anywhere from 3,000 to
100,000 times the currently allowable levels.
The group Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) is
all over this issue, having obtained internal emails from a FOIA
requests that reveal some truly shocking revelations of the level of
back-stabbing betrayal happening inside the EPA. For example, under the
newly-revised PAGs, drinking just one glass of water considered "safe"
by the EPA could subject you to the lifetime limit of radiation.

"In addition," PEER goes on to say, "it would allow long-term cleanup
limits thousands of times more lax than anything EPA has ever before
accepted. These new limits would cause a cancer in as much as every
fourth person exposed."
These new PAGs would also vastly increase the allowable levels of
radiation in soil and food, too. That way, when the radioactive fallout
from Fukushima's massive release of raw radioactive water begins to rain
down upon the West Coast, the EPA can officially announce that all the
radiation is "below accepted limits." That's very comforting to many
people, you see.
And why is it below the limits? Because the EPA just raised the limits

Truly, this is science at its most delightful. When the facts don't fit
your fairy tale, simply rewrite the fairy tale to discard the facts!
That's science for you today, folks: There's nothing that can't be
denied, censored, oppressed or ignored if you just fudge the numbers
with enough determination and arrogance.
The U.S. government does the exact same thing with vitamin D, of course.
By lowering the definition of vitamin D deficiency to mean only those
with a blood level below 30, the government magically and instantly
transforms a wildly deficient American population into a "sufficiently
nourished" population! It's magic, friends. Magic with numbers.
But even the EPA's sleight-of-hand magic isn't fooling very many people
this time around. Even the most TV-obsessed, CNN-watching news zombie
has by now figured out that too much radiation is bad for you. After
all, the media has been screaming at people about the dangers of
sunlight radiation for years, insisting that the mere act of sunlight
touching your skin could kill you from skin cancer.
And yet, thanks to the EPA's magically-morphing numbers, even though
sunlight radiation might kill you, Fukushima radiation is perfectly safe
for ya!
You have a front row seat in this entertaining charade
Isn't it amazing? Watching the U.S. government try to fudge its way out
of the physical realities of Fukushima probably beats the best stage
magic show you'll ever find in Vegas. Sure, in Vegas they can make white
tigers disappear right in front of your very eyes, but with the help of
the U.S. government, they can cause the world's largest nuclear
catastrophe to vanish by simply redefining radiation exposure limits.
You may wonder, dear readers, where the U.S. government learned these
amazing and fantastic tricks of fudging the numbers. The answer, as
regular NaturalNews know all too well, is that they learned it from the
U.S. Treasury, where fudging the numbers is an essential skill to keep
things running. After all, if the federal government can pretend that
trillions of dollars in toxic debt have no impact on the U.S. economy,
it's a no-brainer to also pretend that massive doses of radioactive
fallout have no impact on environmental health, either.
That's the new mantra in Washington: We just wish it away! It should be
Obama's new campaign slogan, actually: Are you ready to wish it all
away? Watch the distraction in my right hand while I steal the money out
of your wallet with my left...
British scientists have the solution: Spread it all around!
Getting back to the absolutely glowing situation in Fukushima, if you
can't believe the U.S. EPA, then perhaps you can take comfort in the
authoritative words of a British newspaper, which assures us that:
"Scientists also confirmed that ocean currents will swiftly dilute the
radioactive iodine-131, eliminating risks to human health and the
environment."

Surely this logic is impeccable, no? Any amount of toxic radiation can
simply be declared safe by dumping it into the ocean and watching the
waves sweep it all away. By this same logic, you could clean up a toxic
chemical spill by swishing it around with wet mops and then declaring
the zone to be safe again.
Didn't we try this already with pesticides, herbicides and agricultural
runoff? And didn't it create massive ocean dead zones all around the
planet? Now we're going to add Chernobyl-sized radiation releases to
that equation, too?
Fukushima is a massive dirty bomb
I'm reminded that if an Islamic-looking individual conducted such an act
anywhere near a U.S. shoreline, it would be considered an act of
terrorism. A dirty bomb, actually. And those individuals would be
shipped off the Guantanamo Bay to be interrogated in a facility that
President Obama once promised the voters would be closed down if he were
elected. He was lying, of course. But that's not even the news here.
Everybody already knows he was lying about Gitmo.
So why is unleashing a dirty bomb an act of terrorism if you're
Islamic-looking, but if you're Japanese suddenly it's all officially
safe? And by what contortions in its twisted agenda of anti-public
service does the EPA go to these extraordinary lengths to redefine the
very margins of radiation exposure? If Fukushima goes into a total
meltdown, will the EPA just add more zeroes to the end of its safety
margin numbers until we're all assured our food is U.S. government
approved 100% safe even while our hair falls out from eating it?
Will the FDA soon tell us that radioactive milk is safe to drink, but
RAW milk is deadly?
Canada tries to out-stupid the USA
Ah, the fascination of watching this tragic comedy of errors unfold in
the U.S. government almost cannot be exceeded. But Canada is sure
trying. Its own nuclear monitoring network has simply been shut off, and
its website now reads "Please note that as of March 25, 2011, the
frequency of data collection by NRCan using the mobile surveys has been
decreased due to the low levels of radiation being detected."

Yep, since they're detecting low levels of radiation, this is apparently
justification for *turning off the monitors altogether*, which of course
is the kind of brilliant early warning plan that could have only been
dreamed up by a brain-dead bureaucrat. It's as if these morons are
sitting around a table having a conversation that goes something like this:
Bureaucratic Moron #1: Remember how we spent a hundred million dollars
installing a national network of radiation detectors?
Bureaucratic Moron #2: Yeah.
Bureaucratic Moron #1: And remember how we started to detect some of the
radioactive fallout from Fukushima as it began raining down upon Canada?
Bureaucratic Moron #2: Yeah.
Bureaucratic Moron #1: Well, I have a great idea. Let's turn OFF all the
detectors so that we stop detecting radiation!
Bureaucratic Moron #2: That's brilliant! You're a genius!
Bureaucratic Moron #1: I know I am. And we wouldn't want to waste this
expensive equipment, you know.
Bureaucratic Moron #2: Right, we want to save it for a scenario when we
might really need it, eh?
Bureaucratic Moron #1: Exactly! And we'll save millions of dollars in
operating fees, because the best way to save money on radiation
detectors is to not use them.
Bureaucratic Moron #2: You're a genius! You should run for Prime Minister!
Yes there is a plan, but you're not in it
Obama, of course, is trying to best his Canadian counterpart by simply
urging the American people to/do nothing/in the case of radioactive
fallout. Don't worry, my little consumer sheeple, you don't need to
prepare in any way whatsoever, Obama says from his nuclear fallout
shelter that's stocked with 10 years of food, water, emergency medical
supplies, government ammunition and military communications equipment.
It's okay for the President to prepare for emergencies, I guess. Just
not YOU.
There is a plan, you see, for the government to survive every disaster
that comes our way. You're just not part of it. The government feels
that its own survival is far more important than yours. And just to make
sure you don't interfere with its own plans, the government is going to
turn off the radiation detectors, raise the official EPA limits of
radioactive exposure, urge Americans to avoid preparing for fallout, and
then pretend absolutely nothing's wrong. Keep on buying, consuming and
paying your bills, all you voters! Punch your time clock at your job if
you still have one, and don't ask any questions about radiation,
vaccines or the chemical additives they put in hot dogs.
Some food ingredients, you see, are only disclosed on a need-to-know
basis. And you don't need to know.
Run for the cure. Vote in the next election. Buy diet sodas and watch
lots of sports programs on television with occasional interruptions from
the news programs now featuring "info babes" regurgitating scripted
mindless propaganda bracketed by flying news network logos. Report
