Take Action

Dear Myra,

Uranium mining? Next door to Grand Canyon National Park?
That's right. It could happen, and we urgently need your help to prevent it.

New uranium mining claims--on public lands that drain directly into Grand Canyon National Park--have the potential to contaminate the Colorado River, which flows through the park; damage sacred sites of multiple Native American tribes; fragment and harm wildlife; and spoil the integrity of landscapes adjacent to one of America's most iconic places.

Due to these concerns, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar imposed a moratorium in 2009 on approximately 1 million acres so land managers could prepare an environmental review that includes a variety of management options. Alternative B of the environmental review provides maximum protection by extending the moratorium on all 1 million acres for 20 years.

Take Action: Please tell the Obama Administration that you support full protection of the Grand Canyon watershed provided by Alternative B of the draft Environmental Impact Statement. Personalizing your comments to include your own perspective and concerns will carry more weight in the government's analysis. Your comments must be sent by May 4th!

Thank you, once again, for taking a moment to help protect Grand Canyon and its natural and cultural treasures. National parks belong to all of us; it's up to us to make sure we pass them on to future generations unharmed.

Sincerely,

David Nimkin
