Quote of the Week

When Economic Collapse Hits, Subsistence Farms Are the Best Place to Be

"Probably the best place to be in this situation [economic collapse precipitated by peak oil and a changing climate] would be on a subsistence farm in a village in Sub-Saharan Africa or someplace that's not much effected by what happens in the rest of the world. I think most people don't realize how vulnerable we are. For example, the food supply in the average city in the United States, if it's not daily renewed, would run out in about 3 days. There's not much of a buffer there. The system can come apart pretty fast."

-Lester Brown, "The Planet's Scarcest Resource is Time," March 22, 2011.

Millions Against Monsanto Fundraising Appeal

A quarter of a million people have already signed up as participants and supporters in our Millions Against Monsanto Truth-in-Labeling Campaign. But we need money to print leaflets, to buy educational videos, to print up T-shirts and bumper stickers, and to pay our campaign staff. As you know, GMOs, Factory Farms, and deceptively labeled consumer products pose a mortal threat to public health, climate stability, and all living things. As we speak, organic crops are being contaminated with Monsanto's GMOs. We need your financial contributions to educate and mobilize consumers, to protect and maintain strict organic standards, and to pressure the entire food industry, including natural food stores and co-ops, to adopt Truth-in-Labeling practices.

Rallies for the Right to Know: March 26, April 16

On March 26, 2011, Millions Against Monsanto activists staged Rallies for the Right to Know in more than 30 cities across the country. This grassroots mobilization began with a call from a trio of hard-working, all-volunteer organizers, Trish Wright, Erica Gray and April Reeves, who planned a demonstration at the White House and urged activists who couldn't come to DC to hold Rallies for the Right to Know locally. The idea spread across the country, rejuvenating the USA movement against Monsanto and GMO foods and crops.

Click here to find out what happened in each city, look at photos, videos and news reports from the rallies, meet the activists who made it all happen, and find out how you can join them.

If there hasn't been a Rally for the Right to Know in your area yet, click here to find out how to make one happen.

April 16, 2011, is the next big national rally day. Denver is leading the way.

Who's in? Send us the details of your rally so we can post it on the Millions Against Monsanto page.

Host a "Future of Food" Movie Night & Organic Potluck

Want to meet Millions Against Monsanto activists in your area? Host a house party featuring "The Future of Food" and a potluck non-GMO dinner at your place.

The Future of Food has been a key tool in the American and international anti-GMO grassroots activist movements and played widely in the environmental and activist circuits since its release in 2004. The film is widely acknowledged for its role in educating voters and the subsequent success of passing Measure H in Mendocino County, California, one of the first local initiatives in the country to ban the planting of GMO crops.

Watch "The Future of Food" for free.

Find out where you can see a public screening of "The Future of Food".

Order a copy of "The Future of Food" for your house party.

Give us the details of your house party and we'll post it on our website and send an email invite to local OCA members.
