Help CFS Fight GE Salmon!

With your support, the Center for Food Safety (CFS) has successfully stopped the commercialization of genetically engineered (GE) crops such as alfalfa, wheat, rice, sugar beets, and pharmaceutical crops. Now we are faced with a new challenge--the pending approval of GE salmon. Through our legal petitions and pressure on federal agencies and our government, we’ve been able to keep this hazardous new fish out of our waters and off our plates for the past ten years. Unfortunately, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)--under serious pressure from the biotech industry--is now set to approve GE salmon, making this the first GE animal ever approved for human consumption.

These GE fish pose serious risks to wild and native salmon and our marine environment and could potentially outcompete, and wipe-out, any remaining native salmon populations. To make matters worse, the human health impacts of eating GE fish are completely unknown. Because GE fish may be susceptible to more diseases than other fish, the amount of antibiotics given to transgenic fish may be higher. As a result, consuming GE fish could lead to the ingestion of harmful antibiotics or contribute to the existing problem of antibiotic resistance in humans. Additionally, GE salmon are lower in Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids than wild salmon, and have more of a potentially dangerous artificial growth hormone.

CFS needs your support to continue our important work to stop the approval of GE fish. With your donation, CFS will continue its successful strategies to pressure FDA, including legal actions and grassroots organizing to prevent this GE salmon--and the proposed 35 additional new GE fish in the pipeline--and keep our food and our environment safe.

As we’ve said before, our members are our most important asset, and we need your support to help us fight this battle--stopping the first-ever proposed GE fish.  If you appreciate all that you have received from the Center for Food Safety and our True Food Network over the years, please show us with a generous contribution!

Help us stop GE salmon and reach our goal of $100,000 by donating today.

Please make a donation to the Center for Food Safety today and help us protect our health, our environment, and our wild salmon from the hazards of genetically engineered fish.  Thank you for your support.

P.S. – Don’t forget to choose a thank you gift when you donate! Get a copy of CAFO: The Tragedy of Industrial Animal Factories, the film “Food Inc.,” the film about Rachel Carson “A Sense of Wonder,” our New True Food Shoppers Guide, and more!
