Dear Ms. Walski, Would you trust a doctor if they told you "don't worry—I've practiced this on a pig," while trying to save your life? I know I wouldn't. Unfortunately, at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine this cruel and ineffective training practice is still happening—doctors are practicing on animals. Innocent pigs and goats are being cut open while they are still alive—their bodies mutilated before they are killed. It's horrible—I know you agree, Ms. Walski. That's why I'm asking you to sign our petition to Vanderbilt University, telling it to stop using, abusing, and killing innocent animals in its emergency medicine residency program. Over the last few months, we've really stepped up our efforts. We've filed a legal complaint, charging the university with violating federal law by using live animals in medical training … launched a public education campaign around campus to raise awareness of this unnecessary cruelty … held a peaceful, physician-led demonstration … posted billboards…but we're not done yet! Our next step to victory depends on you. Please take action and sign our petition today—our goal is to have 5,000 new signatures by midnight. I am confident that together, we can stop this cruelty—we've done it before! Just last year, our pressure convinced two similar programs at SUNY Upstate and Southern Illinois University to stop using animals. Let's win this one, too! Thank you for fighting for voiceless animals. PCRM can't win battles like this without you! Sincerely, Neal Barnard, M.D. President, PCRM |
