In Secret, Obama Extended U.S. Military Role in Afghanistan Combat --New secret authorization also allows American jets, bombers and drones to support Afghan troops on combat missions 21 Nov 2014 President Obama signed a secret order in recent weeks authorizing a more expansive mission for the military in Afghanistan in 2015 than originally planned, a move that ensures American troops will have a direct role in fighting in the war-ravaged country for at least another year. In an announcement in the White House Rose Garden in May, Mr. Obama said that the American military would have no combat role in Afghanistan next year, and that the missions for the 9,800 troops remaining in the country would be limited to training Afghan forces and to hunting the "remnants of Al Qaeda [al-CIAduh]." But Mr. Obama's secret order allows American forces to carry out missions against the Taliban and other militant groups threatening American troops or the Afghan government, a broader mission than the president described to the public earlier this year, according to several administration, military and congressional officials with knowledge of the decision.

White House, C.I.A. Working Together to Thwart Release of Agency's Torture Report - Senate Democrats 21 Nov 2014 In a tense confrontation with President Obama's closest adviser on Thursday, a group of Senate Democrats accused the White House of trying to censor significant details in a voluminous report on the use of torture by the Central Intelligence Agency. During a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill with Denis R. McDonough, the White House chief of staff, the senators said that the White House was siding with the C.I.A. and trying to thwart negotiations over the report's release. The negotiations have dragged on for months because of a dispute over the C.I.A.'s demand that pseudonyms of agency officers [war criminals] be deleted from the report. The C.I.A., supported by the White House, has argued that even without using the real names of the officers, their identities could still be revealed.

CIA wants to destroy thousands of internal emails covering spy operations and other activities 20 Nov 2014 A CIA plan to erase tens of thousands of its internal emails -- including those sent by virtually all covert and counterterrorism officers after they leave the agency -- is drawing fire from Senate Intelligence Committee members concerned that it would wipe out key records of some of the agency's most controversial operations [aka war crimes; torture; the 9/11 inside job; creation and perpetuation of al-CIAduh and I-CIA-SIS]. The agency proposal, which has been tentatively approved by the National Archives, "could allow for the destruction of crucial documentary evidence regarding the CIA's activities," Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Dianne Feinstein and ranking minority member Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., wrote in a letter to Margaret Hawkins, the director of records and management services at the archives.

Utah Considers Cutting Off Water to the NSA's Monster Data Center 20 Nov 2014 The legislation, proposed by Utah lawmaker Marc Roberts (R), is due to go to the floor of the Utah House of Representatives early next year, but it was debated in a Public Utilities and Technology Interim Committee meeting on Wednesday. The bill, H.B. 161, directs municipalities like Bluffdale to "refuse support to any federal agency which collects electronic data within this state." Lawmakers are considering a bill that would shut off the water spigot to the massive data center operated by the National Security Agency in Bluffdale, Utah.

House Republicans sue over Obama's healthcare law 21 Nov 2014 Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday filed a long-anticipated lawsuit challenging the implementation of President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law over employer-based coverage and payments to insurers, according to court documents. The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Washington against the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Treasury, targets a decision to delay implementation of the law's employer mandate, which requires employers with more than 50 employees to offer healthcare coverage. It also challenges a provision of the law that authorizes Treasury payments to health insurance companies.

President Obama Offers Legal Status to Millions of Undocumented Immigrants 20 Nov 2014 President Obama tonight announced a sweeping executive action that the White House said will secure the border while providing relief for an estimated 4.1 million undocumented family members of U.S. citizens and about 300,000 undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children. "Today, our immigration system is broken and everybody knows it," the president said from the East Room of the White House..."There are actions I have the legal authority to take as president -- the same kinds of actions taken by Democratic and Republican presidents before me -- that will help make our immigration system more fair and more just," Obama said. The action will be finalized Friday with the signing of a presidential memorandum at a rally in Las Vegas.

As President Obama gives the biggest gift to Wall Street since the Affordable Care Act: U.S. stocks end higher; S&P 500, Dow at records 20 Nov 2014 The U.S. stock market finished Thursday's sleepy session amid low volumes slightly higher. Incremental gains on the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average were enough for the indexes to notch new records...Helping overall sentiment was a batch of data that pointed at continuing improvement in the economy.
Obama's immigration plan will offer millions of work permits, facilitate visas for foreign high-tech workers 20 Nov 2014 President Obama will announce new plans to shield millions of illegal immigrants from deportation in a prime-time address on Thursday evening, opening a political fight with Republicans who believe those plans exceed Obama's powers as president. In his 8 p.m. address, Obama is expected to say he will stop deportations for a certain group of illegal immigrants: parents whose children are already U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents...There are about 3.7 million illegal immigrants who meet those criteria, according to a report from the Migration Policy Institute. Under Obama's plan, some of them would also be able to apply for work permits, which now are available only to immigrants with legal status. In addition, Obama is expected to announce more efforts to protect the U.S. border and to facilitate visas for foreigners who pursue science, technology, engineering and math degrees in the United States.
Radioactive leak after fire at Scottish nuclear power plant 21 Nov 2014 A fire at a Scottish nuclear power plant led to an "unauthorised" [!?!] release of radioactivity in to the environment, an investigation has revealed. Site operators said they had identified "unacceptable behaviours and practices" by staff at the Dounreay plant on the north coast of Scotland. Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL) revealed trace amounts of tritium were released during the blaze, but said they did not pose a risk to the public. [!?!]
Mexico missing students: Capital sees mass protests 20 Nov 2014 Relatives of 43 missing Mexican students have led mass protests in the capital demanding action from the government to find them. The families from Guerrero State arrived in Mexico City after touring the country. The students, all trainee teachers, went missing after attending a protest in Iguala, Guerrero State.
Judge: No Release for Illinois Man in Terror Case --Prosecutor William Ridgway countered that jail may have actually hardened Tounisi's anti-American views. [!?!] 20 Nov 2014 A federal judge says a 20-year-old American accused of trying to join al-Qaida[al-CIAduh]-affiliated fighters in Syria will remain jailed pending trial. Abdella Ahmad Tounisi's lawyer asked at a Thursday hearing in Chicago for her client to be released to home confinement. Molly Armour argued that Tounisi was an immature 18-year-old when he was arrested at O'Hare International Airport in 2013 trying to board a plane to Turkey.
State OKs Additional $5M for New Sandy Hook Elementary School 20 Nov 2014 The State Bond Commission on Wednesday approved another 5 million for the planning and design of a new Sandy Hook Elementary School. The grant is part of the state's commitment to spend up to 50 million to build a new educational facility for the children of Newtown. The old Sandy Hook Elementary School was demolished after a gunman killed six educators and 20 children in December 2012. [Connecticut governor Dannel Malloy (D) is making cuts as the state is running a projected deficit of 99 million, but 50 million is being wasted on a new school to replace a school that was just used for the big drill-gone-live in December 2012.
COINTELPRO is a busy little bee: FBI arrests two would-be Ferguson bomb suspects: law enforcement source 22 Nov 2014 Two men suspected of buying explosives they planned to detonate during protests in Ferguson, Missouri, once a grand jury decides the Michael Brown case, were arrested on Friday and charged with federal firearms offenses, a law enforcement official told Reuters. Word of the arrests, reported by a number of media outlets Friday, came ahead of the grand jury's widely anticipated decision on whether the white police officer who fatally shot Brown, an unarmed black teenager, should be indicted on criminal charges. The FBI and other federal agencies were reported to have stepped up their presence in the St. Louis area in recent days in anticipation of renewed protests after the grand jury's decision in the Brown case is made known.
'We will hunt you down': KKK threatens to shoot Anonymous 'n***** lovers' 21 Nov 2014 A bitter war of words between hacker collective Anonymous and the Klu Klux Klan risks spilling over into real violence, with the right-wing hate group allegedly threatening to shoot dead activists wearing the Guy Fawkes mask in southern Missouri. Earlier this week, Anonymous sent out a tweet relating an alleged interaction between Frank Ancona, the self-described "Imperial Wizard of the Traditionalist American Knights," and a fellow KKK member. In the missive, Ancona allegedly said those wandering around rural Missouri in a Guy Fawkes mask could "accidentally" find themselves in a hunter's crosshairs.
Notorious hacktivist Jeremy Hammond shares methods, motives 10 Nov 2014 [Criminals] converge at Manchester Federal Prison in rural Kentucky -- and then there is Jeremy Hammond, a tousle-haired and talented hacker whose nimble fingers have clicked and tapped their way into the nation's computing systems. Among those whose data he helped expose: the husband of the federal judge who sentenced him [and should have recused herself from the case]. Once the FBI's most-wanted cybercriminal, Hammond is serving one of the longest sentences a U.S. hacker has received -- 10 years, the maximum allowed under his plea agreement last year...The FBI caught Hammond with the assistance of Hector Xavier Monsegur, a famous hacker [and traitor] known as Sabu who helped law enforcement infiltrate Anonymous and convict eight hackers in all. Plague kills 40 people in Madagascar 21 Nov 2014 An outbreak of the plague has killed 40 people out of 119 confirmed cases in Madagascar since late August and there is a risk of the disease spreading rapidly in the capital, the World Health Organisation has said. So far two cases and one death have been recorded in the capital Antananarivo but those figures could climb quickly due to "the city's high population density and the weakness of the healthcare system," WHO warned.
New Bird Flu Cluster Identified in Netherlands 21 Nov 2014 Dutch authorities Friday said they will slaughter poultry at a cluster of three farms after new cases of bird flu were found in the town of Kamperveen, in the third outbreak in the Netherlands this week. A new infection was detected Friday morning at a chicken farm in Kamperveen, roughly a hundred kilometers (60 miles) away from the previous infections, the Economic Affairs Ministry said. During a check of nearby farms, one farm was found with birds showing signs of illness.
40% decline in polar bears in Alaska, western Canada heightens concern 21 Nov 2014 The number of polar bears in eastern Alaska and western Canada has declined by 40%, according to a scientific study that raises more questions about the impact of global warming on the creature that has become the symbol of some of its worst effects. The study, published in the current issue of Ecological Applications, was carried out by scientists from several groups, including the U.S. Geological Survey and Environment Canada, that tagged and released polar bears in the southern Beaufort Sea from 2001 to 2010. The bear population in the area shrank to about 900 in 2010, down from about 1,600 in 2004, according to their findings. Perhaps even more worrisome, just two of 80 polar bear cubs that the international team tracked between 2003 and 2007 survived, according to the study.
Heatwave hell as 5000 dead bats drop from trees in northern NSW 19 Nov 2014 Extreme heat has killed thousands bats in northern NSW, with wildlife carers now working around the clock to save hundreds of orphaned babies while council workers clear huge piles of flying fox carcasses. Temperatures rocketed to 44 degrees in C-sino on Saturday, sparking the mass deaths of up to 5000 flying foxes, many of which simply dropped out of trees and were dead before they hit the ground. In similar scenes, more than 2000 flying foxes perished in the Richmond Valley at the weekend.
Senators slam industry's response to 'live grenade' air bags 20 Nov 2014  An executive from Japan's Takata Corp apologized at a Senate hearing on Thursday to the victims of defective air bags that can rupture upon deployment and shoot metal shards into cars, but stopped short of taking full responsibility for deaths linked to the scandal. The hearing by the Senate Commerce Committee also focused on whether regulators [sic] and the auto industry have yet captured the full scope or the exact cause of the defect that has affected millions of vehicles and been linked to at least five deaths...Democratic Senator Ed Markey said the incident shows the need for a nationwide recall. "Every single one of these Takata air bags could be a ticking time bomb," he said. [Takata terrorist on future killer air-bag recall: 'It's difficult for me to answer yes or no' --Takata's airbags kill and maim more than ISIS, but the Wall Street-owned US government won't force a nationwide recall.]
Takata airbag victims looked like they had been shot or stabbed 20 Nov 2014 When police got to the scene of a minor car accident in Alhambra, California in September 2013, they thought the driver, Hai Ming Xu, had been shot in the face. A similar conclusion was reached by Orlando police responding to an accident a year later -- they believed that the driver, Hien Thi Tran, had been the victim of a stabbing that might have caused the accident. But what allegedly killed both drivers was the device put in their cars to protect them - an airbag manufactured by Takata. Lawsuits and police reports say these airbags have exploded with such force that they sent shrapnel flying into the car's drivers, fatally wounding Xu and Tran.
