From the Desk of: Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman Liberty Counsel November 5, 2013 Last night, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) passed the cloture vote in the Senate with 61 votes. An up or down final vote is expected on Wednesday, but with yesterday's vote for cloture, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will now only need a simple majority (51) to move ENDA forward to the House. Sadly, ENDA is assured passage in Reid's chamber which now has 55 Democrat senators. But, thankfully, the bill faces a far tougher battle in the House! ++Liberty Counsel will not surrender this fight! Thank you for standing with us as we battled ENDA in Harry Reid's liberal "progressive" Senate. I have profound gratitude for our Liberty Counsel family, and your willingness to stand firmly on principle at a time when our nation is under siege from "political correctness" and the subversion of religious freedom. ENDA is an anti-free speech, anti-freedom of religion, and anti-business bill masquerading as a "civil rights" issue. It is a direct attack on every American's liberties, including those who are foolishly pushing for its passage. If ENDA is somehow passed, workplaces all across America will be forced to comply with yet another set of cumbersome federal regulations. It will be an economic disaster of the first order! Sexual orientation and gender identity will be elevated to the status of the protected traits of race, age, and biological sex. Our constitutionally established freedoms of speech and religion will immediately come under assault. This is yet another step in the Obama playbook toward the complete subversion of our unalienable rights as American citizens and the destruction of our society's longstanding foundation of liberty. Freedom loving Americans, like you and me, must not allow the continual attacks from the Left to wear us down to a state of inaction. ++The battle against ENDA will now shift to the House. Our next battle will be in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, where speaker John Boehner has already announced his opposition to the bill. Our opportunity for victory lies in "the people's House." Liberty Counsel is gearing up for this fight now and will aggressively oppose the passage of this pro-homosexual, anti-faith legislation upon its arrival at the House. Please take heart – it is far more likely that the House will reject ENDA, but not unless Congressmen and women hear from Americans like you and me! I know that you will again be faithful to the cause of liberty when that time comes. Thank you again for standing with us in our efforts to prevent ENDA from becoming the law of the land! Liberty Counsel cannot effectively protect our liberties from the legislative attacks of the liberal "progressives" without your committed support! God bless you, Mathew D.
