01.   The 18 plants that remove air pollutants.  These were determined with the belief that, eventually, the US would
establish a moon base and send an exploration to Mars and beyond. 
02.  An adjunct project developed a "mini swamp" for recycling human waste into reusable H2O and food.  These
were considered far less expensive and more practical than having one or more food and H2O modules and mechanical
filtration and waste ejection technology. 
03.  NASA further discovered that a 4'x4' square lawn recycled human CO2 into O2.
04.  These led to the conclusion that growing food plants during the flight, provided astronauts with healthier fresh food
and recycled their bio waste.  There was a scifi movie that incorporated these into the story line.
05.  NASA developments have given us airoponics, aquaponics, hydroponics and Mel Bartholemew's "Square Foot
