The added ingredient, POE-15, helps the herbicide penetrate into the plant tissue. But a recent study showed that it is highly toxic to human cells. Unfortunately, the research required by regulatory authorities like the US Environmental Protection Agency tests only the "active" ingredient glyphosate alone and ignores POE-15 and numerous other supposedly "inert" ingredients.. A study from the University of Wisconsin confirmed that several GM crops have lower yields than their non-GM counterparts, despite claims made by GMO seed companies. While this has been known for years, this study also demonstrated that when GM crops contain two or more inserted genes (called stacking), the genes interacted and often made yields even worse. The study, which was funded by the USDA, used test plot data on GM and non-GM corn grown between 1990 and 2010.
